Ode aan de pink poncho

Despite this festival being famous for its music, culture and parties I was most impressed by the power of nature. Call it naive or optimistic, but I didn’t bring a rain jacket or rubber boots and no spare dry clothes. First thing we got arriving on the Island however was a pink poncho.

After a night of sleep, in our royal 2 seconds tent on a princess aero bed, I woke up smelling fresh baked eggs and coffee: the wonderful world of Waacs.. Few hours later we cycled around the island enjoying the nature. We had seen the sheep; the rabbits and a bear (?) and we decided we wanted to feel the see. Behind the dunes the North Sea was facing us. We took of our shoes, socks and legging and fast as we could
we ran to the sea. But then all of a sudden a heavy storm was heading us. It started to RAIN. So hard. Remember, there were no rain jackets, no umbrellas, no rubber boots and no dry clothes. And since the beach of Terschelling is really wide it was no option to go back.. It was, lets say: ‘coming with containers from heaven’. We froze. A big dark cloud was surrounding us, looking evil. The hair was getting soaked and the make-up.. terrible.

Verzopen straatkat? No! We realized: the pink poncho!

Wearing a poncho, even if it is pink, is not really a fashion statement plus: ever tried to put on a poncho in a heavy storm? However, when a girl is in a dangerous situation she follows her instincts. So we unfolded the poncho, sprawl our arms and the strong wind made the poncho form itself around us, like a superman’s suit.. We waited and waited until the big evil dark cloud gave up. Hiding under the pink plastic layer, afraid to look up, we eventually noticed the rain had stopped falling.. Slowly she came back, powerful, warm and yellow. The SUN. Totally surprised by the power of nature, we couldn’
t move for a few seconds. Until we realized the rain had stopped the poncho was on its place and we were totally dry underneath.
YES!! Thanks to the poncho we mastered nature once again and we were spick and span while bumping in to the Dutch George Clooney: Jeroen Pauw
a few minutes later..
I LOVE the pink poncho! (Special thanks to Hans Tak, btw it sure was a Kodak moment!)
