The Waacs crew really got their feet on the ground with the workshop given by one of the team members. No sissy running on the sand but bare feet on tarmac! we did some simple exercises to feel the benefit of a high cadence bounce and short strides with a forward lean, effectively falling forwards. It total changes the way you run, small steps quick and light landing on your front foot, using your legs for self-absorption and not heal striking with your big foamy shoes. with barefoot you really feel the posture of your body as it fine-tunes its self to an optimal and efficient running pose. As is often the case less is more. (watch out if you try this at home! even experienced runners can get serious muscle ache in the calf muscles)
Too far!
we got a bit carried away and went further than we intended (exceeding expectations;), but hitched a ride back with a friendly islander in her Land Rover, who brought us home at brake neck speed with little regard to the width of the road or wither we stayed on it and conversation was carried out with one word answers as only true islanders can. An authentic experience to top off the workshop, thanks Linda!
